Peter Kirn over at Create Digital Music has posted a great round-up of all the tools people have put together to make music with the iPod Touch and iPhone. The post touches on some of the more technical aspects of music app development on the iPhone and iPod Touch, and there’s a great list of links to cool apps you can download and mess around with. For better or for worse, MP3 player manufacturers are tripping over themselves to add touch-screen navigation to their portable MP3 and video players in an effort to compete with Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch . Whether it’s the integrated Bluetooth of the Samsung P2 , or the full Opera Web browser of the Archos 605 WiFi , these iPod Touch competitors have more to offer than discounted prices and pretty looks. Apple on Tuesday shuffled (har, har) its lineup of matchbook-size digital music players, announcing a new iPod Shuffle with double the storage space and slashing the price of its 1GB models to AU$65. In the same week that Apple doubled the capacity of its iPod Touch to 32GB, Creative has taken the odd step of releasing a 2GB version of its Zen MP3 player. Apple Computer shuffled in new iPod Mini and iPod Photo music players and dropped prices on some models. SanDisk hopes to grab a slice of the flash MP3 player market back from Apple when it releases its Sansa music players on Friday. Read more

Websites with specifically written code are able to lock up your iPhone or iPod Touch and can crash your PC or Mac running Safari. Most versions of Safari are vulnerable to the exploit including the version that runs on the iPhone or iPod Touch. The exploit basically overruns the memory allocated to Safari and will your iPhone or iPod Touch to lock up or Safari on your desktop computer to crash. Apple has not commented on the issue but there’s no doubt in my mind the company is working on a firmware update to plug this hole on the iPhone and iPod Touch. It is highly recommended to upgrade to the latest version of Safari on your PC or Mac and temporarily disable Javascript on your iPhone or iPod Touch as a temporary measure until Apple releases an update.
